Pottery and wood carving today.

Today we visited two artisans that made different types of craft. The first one concentrated on wood carving. The wood was then decoarated in fine dots and patterns similar to the Aboriginal dreamtime art. The style originated from a man who had wierd dreams of animals in all shapes and sizes. He then started carving them and they are a huge success. I bought a hummingbird which is so cute. I also have a video of the process when I can upload it.

The next place was a pottery craft. Many indigenous people make the pottery but about 50 years ago the mother of the man who did our presentation came up with a great idea. She was asked to sign her pottery by tourists. She could not write so she drew a rose with a crystal from the earth as her name was Rose. When she put it in the kiln she realized that it was shiny black where she used the crystal. She started to cover the whole pottery piece with the crystal and she got a beauttiful black shiny object. She started this craze. You will see Jack and I looking down the earth kiln which was pretty deep.
